The spring blood drive is to be held on March 10. The blood drive is held by the Oklahoma blood institute.

The blood drive will go on all day and each student that has signed up will receive a scheduled time to go. Students must sign up and get a form from either the freshman library or the main library. The form must be taken home and signed by a parent no matter the student’s age.

All forms are due by Wednesday March 1. No late forms will be accepted because the schedule is based off of students not missing core classes.

The last blood drive that took place on November 18 had over 100 students and faculty donate. When giving blood the donor is allowed to give one pint of blood and should be a healthy donor.

Before giving blood the donor should get a good night’s rest, drink a lot of water, and eat a healthy meal before making the donation.

During the donation the donor should wear sleeves that are easily able to be raised above the elbow, the donor should relax, and tell the nurse taking blood if you have a preferred arm with a good blood vein.

After the donation the donor should drink extra water, remove the wrapped bandage within the next hour after giving blood, but keep a strip bandage on for several hours, and avoid heavy lifting or exercise.

The blood given goes through a 5 step process. First, the blood is donated, next, the blood is processed and scanned into a computer database, and the blood is sent in test tubes to be tested. Next, dozens of tests are performed on each unit of donated blood this is done to establish the blood type and test for infectious diseases. If the donation does not test positive then the blood is sent to be stored, and finally the blood is distributed to hospitals around the state for use.

The blood drive is to take place on Friday March 10, and forms are due on Wednesday March 1. Forms can be picked up from either library in the high school. All forms of students must have a parent signature, and turned into a library. Reminders will be sent out on remind101 with an electronic form attached, which could be printed of to be signed.
