Over the years, George Lucas has surprised his fans with his creative imagination, giving us the greatest villains in history: Count Dooku, Darth Sidious, and the infamous Darth Vader.

In 1977, Darth Vader was introduced in the very first Star Wars film. Originally Anakin Skywalker, he became leader of the Sith with the heavy influence of Darth Sidious. Darth Vader would stop at nothing to take over the galaxy. Darth Vader was originally played by James Earl Jones. In the prequels, Darth Vader is played by Hayden Christensen.

“I love Darth Vader because is the most symbolic and the most recognizable of Star Wars villains,” sophomore Noah Estes said.

In 1983, Darth Sidious was introduced in Episode VI- Return of the Jedi. Darth Sidious is the villain who persuaded Anakin Skywalker to join the Sith and become Darth Vader. Originally, Darth Sidious was portrayed by Clive Revill. In the prequels, Darth Sidious is portrayed by Ian Mcdiarmid.

“What I like about Darth Sidious is that he is able to focus on making the world evil; he is good at focusing on what is important to him,” junior Pranoy Behera said.

In 1999’s Star Wars Episode I – The Phantom Menace, Darth Maul was introduced as a Sith Lord trained by Darth Sidious. He is best known by his red skin, double-bladed red lightsaber and scheming ways. Darth Maul is portrayed by Ray Park.

“Darth Maul sparks particular interest because his lightsaber is double-sided, which is really cool,” sophomore Edward Reali said.

In 2002, Count Dooku was introduced in Star Wars Episode II – Attack of the Clones. He is also known as Darth Tyranus. He was trained by Yoda, and he was a Jedi, but he craved more power and became a disciple of Darth Sidious. Count Dooku was portrayed by Christopher Lee.

In 2005, General Grievous was introduced in Star Wars Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. He is a cyborg with an extra set of arms so he can use four lightsabers at once. He is super-fast and deadly. The voice of General Grievous is done by Matthew Wood.

This year, the new film featured a brand new villain to the Star Wars trilogy named Kylo Ren. Ren is a dark warrior who is strong with the force. He is the leader of the first order missions with an extremely bad temper. His lightsaber is red and unique because of the cross guard.

Some Star Wars fans believe the villains are becoming more and more devious. Star Wars: The Force Awakens was released Dec. 18.
