It is no secret that hard work pays off, and both the girl’s and the boy’s soccer teams have proven that. Throughout a tough season for both teams, they fought through and made it to playoffs.

Junior William Doenges is one of the keepers on the varsity soccer squad. With years of experience, Doenges’ success bleeds into the success of his team, and his efforts between the goalposts have brought the team forward victoriously this season.

“The main things that has helped me along the way have been the support of my family, team mates, and some really great coaches,” Doenges said.

Although the boy’s successful season has seemed flawless, it has come with its share of difficulties. Their team received a new head coach, Vladan Glavonic, otherwise known as Pika.

“At the beginning of the season we had struggles to do with Pika being a new coach, but as the season progressed we have started to master coach’s style of play helping us be more successful on the field,” Doenges said.

For the first time in 3 years the Bartlesville Lady Bruins soccer squad is going to the playoffs. Senior Kassidy Quillin is excited to be advancing to playoffs as she closes out her high school soccer career. Quillin is a keeper for the Varsity girls team, and has been an asset to the team throughout her time playing.

“We have came together as a team because we did a lot better and beat a lot of low expectations that people had for the team this year,” Quillin said.

The Lady Bruins have come together as a team with a common goal – to win strategically. This is no accident though, as  head Coach Aaron Kuntz, for the varsity girls soccer team, has worked long hours with the players to make them better as individuals, and strengthen their skills as a team.

“Early in the season I started talking to the team about what their goals for the season would be and we decided that finishing in the top 3 of our district and making a run in the playoffs were lofty but attainable goals for our program,” Kuntz said. “After achieving our first goal we are excited and ready to tackle our second goal of playoffs.”

The boys and girls both just recently won both their games in the playoffs against Bixby on April 24. The boys won 2-2 with a shootout of 3-4. The girls won 2-1. Both the Bruins and the Lady Bruins will continue on in the playoffs.
