The entire school community is revving up for Homecoming 2019, set for Oct. 7 – 11. The theme of this year’s homecoming was decided in the summer by the student council.
“The students at that retreat selected the Under the Sea theme for the dance to go along with “Sink the Sandites,” which is our overall theme for Homecoming,” student council sponsor Amanda Hendrix said.
The homecoming week has planned dress-up days: Monday there is going to be country vs. country club, Tuesday is space themed, Wednesday students wear pink, then there is “throwback Thursday, Friday students show bruin pride for the game and our players.
There will also be door decorating. The theme for the game will be, Sink the Sandites and the dance theme is Under the Sea. The deadline for door decorations is Oct. 7, but the doors will be judged on Thursday, Oct. 10 before the parade. The winner of the trophy will be announced at the Homecoming Assembly on Friday, Oct. 11.
Shirts have been specially made for homecoming. Homecoming shirts are sold for 10$ from Oct. 7 to Oct.11.The shirt features a set of jaws surrounding “BHS homecoming 2019” in the back of the shirt it shows a roaring bruin in the surrounded with sharks with the saying, “ Sink the Sandites.
“This year’s design by Ashlyn Sweat received the most votes, and that will be our Homecoming t-shirt,” Hendrix said.
The parade is going to be on October 10 at 6 p.m. the parade will commence on Frank Phillips and Cherokee Avenue. This year there will be flouts designed by each class this year.Now to the parade what will be happening is that we will have a float for each grade level so students will need a teacher to sponsor them. The parade will start at the First Baptist Church parking lot on Cherokee Ave. The parade route will start at FBC, going north to Frank Phillips, west on Keeler, south to Fifth, east to Cherokee, back to the parking FBC.
The homecoming football game is on Friday, Oct. 11. The Bruins are going up against the Sand Springs Sandites. People are encouraged to wear Bruin gear at the game to support the football team.
The dance will start on Saturday, Oct. 12, at 8 p.m. and goes to 11 p.m. The theme of the dance is Under the Sea. The tickets will cost $10/person, cash or check made out to Bartlesville High School during lunch from Sept. 30 to Oct. 11. The dance is semi-formal. Students cannot buy other people tickets without them being present.
